TV Free Monday’s Part 2

March 24, 2009 By Melissa

Happy Monday Everyone!

Welcome back to Mel’s World this week! I have so much to share with you that I don’t hardly even know where to start. So, let’s start in the beginning why don’t we?

Last Monday our family embarked on a brand new adventure. We started TV FREE MONDAY’S at our house and at first I truly thought we would be fighting an uphill battle with our boys. At 13 & 15 they are quite used to having the TV on just about all the time they are in the house (thankfully they like to be outside a lot).

We sat them down and talked to them about our desire to “unplug” on Monday’s and were shocked when they jumped on board and agreed that it was a great idea. (Seriously y’all, I was shocked!) My hubby also thought it would be helpful for us to focus on a Bible verse for the week so on all the TV’s in the house he taped up our verse to 1) help us remember NOT to turn on the tv, and 2) to help us commit the verse to our memories.

So…here’s what happened, because I am guessing at this point you just really want to know if it worked! Right?

We ALL made it an entire day without turning the TV on at all, not for music, not for news, not for anything. I have to say that it was actually harder for ME than it was for anyone. I like to “unwind” at the end of the night with a good TV show to help turn off my brain. Unfortunately I was probably the most tempted out of any of us to turn it on that day.

I’m just shooting straight with ya here!

Thankfully there was a ton of grace and a serious thought shift that happened to all of us that day! We all memorized our verse (Ecc. 5:5) and still know it this week (yay!), we played family games towards the end of the night (Scattergories), and read tons of books during the day (go God!).

I have to say that it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but I am so thankful that we have started it. Today was actually easier for everyone and we have been able to really focus more on each other. (Which is always a nice thing for families!)

This week our verse is Proverbs 3:6 (NLT), you are more than welcome to join in with us in our Memory Verse for the week and who knows…maybe you’ll turn off your TV’s on Monday too!

Proverbs 3:6 (NLT)
Seek his will
in all you do,
and he will show you
which path to take.

Here’s to a GREAT start to a new week!

Wordless Wednesday ~ Science Fair

March 4, 2009 By Melissa

After 6 months of planning, research, data, building, studying, shuttling, and tons of work the County Science Fair came and went.

This is my oldest son Nick (he’ll be 15 in a couple of days), and his Science Fair Project on “How Effective is Chiropractic Care?”. He built an 8ft. display for it (PVC pipes and wood) and placed in the top 10 in his high school and 2nd in the County.

Needless to say we are thrilled and excited for him and oh so thankful that it is over (we have never done a science fair project like this at all…it was a learning experience for everyone).

Mom Works at Home – Priorities

February 3, 2009 By Melissa

Hey There Everyone, I just wanted to pop over here to let you know that I am writing today from Take Root and Write!

I run a bi-monthly column and group over there called “Mom Works at Home“. This week we are talking a little bit about “PRIORITIES“.

I would love for you to pop over there to visit me and read a little more about “Getting it Together with your Priorities“.

Here’s a little bit of the article…

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. (Psalm 37:23 KJV)
I have to tell you that I have been jumping out of my skin so excited about talking with you about PRIORITIES. I hope and pray that you were able to get a jump start this month on GETTING IT TOGETHER by working on your SCHEDULE a couple of weeks ago.
Today we’re going to chat about your PRIORITIES. I am so passionate about this for so many reasons, but to be able to share with you, my MOM WORKS AT HOME friends, makes it even more special. You know why? Because you, as Work at Home Moms, already get that one of your PRIORITIES are our families. Right?
Before we get going, let’s take a minute to look at the definition of “priority” to help us get our minds ready for what God is trying to show us.
pri⋅or⋅i⋅ty   (thanks to Dictionary.com)
– the right to precede others in order, rank, privilege, etc.; precedence.
– something given special attention

Well…that’s all you’re gonna get…so head on over THERE (<-- click on there) to read the rest of the article. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! Seeking JOY on the JOURNEY,
